    INTRODUCTION
    1.0 Introduction
    This chapter is the fundamental of our study- the awareness of the impact of the global warming. It consists of the background of the study, problem statement, research objectives, research questions, definitions of terms used throughout the research, review of methodology, and organization of chapter.
    1.1 Background of the Study
    Global warming is a phrase that refers to the effect on the climate of human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels, which causes emissions to the atmosphere large amounts of ‘greenhouse gases’, of which the most important is carbon dioxide (Houghton, 2005, p.1343).
    1.2 Statement of Problem
    One of the main causes of Global Warming is the Green house effect. Greenhouse Gases are released into the atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels, oil, coal and gas (Houghton, 2005). Based on our observations and experience, many Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) students are suffering from the rapid changes in local climates. As a result, UMP students are easily exposed to flu and illnesses. Therefore, a case study such as this may help to discover the level of awareness among UMP students on the impact of global warming.
    1.3 Research Objectives
    Our research objective is:
    1.3.1 To identify if UMP students are aware of the impact of global warming.
    1.4 Research Questions
    1.4.1 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming in the world?
    1.4.2 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming in agriculture?
    1.4.3 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming on human health?
    1.5 Definitions of Terms Used Throughout This Research
    1.5.1 Impact: giving a vague idea of one thing to another.
    1.5.2 Global warming: an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution, thus causing an increase in the earth’s temperature and oceanic temperatures.
    1.6 Review of Methodology
    The methodology used in this survey was survey questionnaires. We distributed questionnaires to UMP students and collecting it back from them on the spot. The study was conducted in UMP, emphasizing on UMP students. The sampling was done on a number of 60 UMP students from six different faculties.
    1.7Organisation of Chapter
    This chapter presents the background of the study, problem statement, research objectives, research questions, definitions of terms used throughout the research, review of methodology, and organization of chapter. Each subtopic is self-explanatory, and it provides an understanding on what this study is about, and further signifies the importance of this study.
    CHAPTER 2
    REVIEW OF LITERATURE
    2.1 Introduction
    In chapter 2, we discuss about articles of impact of global warming that had been published and accredited by researcher. These articles are related to the impact of global warming on the environment, agriculture, and infectious diseases. And they had been analyzed and synthesized by us and it serves as a primary source for our studies.
    2.2 The Impact of Global Warming On the Environment.
    Global warming is the most environmental problem the world faces nowadays. Houghton (2005) suggests that global warming is referred to the effects of human activities which cause the emissions of large quantities of ‘greenhouse gases’ and these gases will absorb the heat emitted by the Earth and keep it warmer. According to The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC (IPCC citied in McMichael,et.al, 2006), the average temperature in the world is expected to be increasing within the range 1.4-5.8oC by 2100. As a result, global warming will generate unpredictable climate change throughout the world and bring negative impact on both human communities and natural ecosystems.
    Firstly, global warming influences water cycle and results drought and flood. Such disasters will cause more deaths, misery and also economic loss (Houghton, 2005). Similarly, Lehner,et.al (2006) also agree and say that extreme floods and droughts can cause enormous damage to economy, ecology and life. Besides that, global warming has serious impact on human health in numerous ways. Houghton (2005) finds that the death rate of heat stress in the extreme high temperatures becomes more frequent. And indirectly, infectious diseases such as malaria may progressively increase due to climate change. Global warming also has impact on agriculture, especially crops production. Concentration of carbon dioxide and changes in temperature will affect on plant growth. Houghton (2005) claims that crop qualities and quantities will change under influence of global warming. But, the crop patterns will differ depending to the regions’ climate change.
    As a conclusion, global warming is a serious global problem which it brings impact on both humans and environment. Thus, action by everybody is required to reduce the impact of global warming (Houghton, 2005).
    2.3 The Impact of Global Warming on Agriculture
    The rate of global warming is in the trend of acceleration for the past 14 years (Deng et. al., 2008). Studies have shown that global warming has brought several impacts on agriculture. A clear understanding on the consequences of global warming on agriculture is the central for us to develop strategies in predicting future changes and to have a better understanding in the progress of crop production.
    The increase in the temperature, will most likely to cause a negative yield on crop. Alkolibi (2002) acknowledges that as temperature increases, along with low precipitation, would have induced evapotranspiration, which will reduce the soil moisture and damaging the soil, consequently lowering the crop yield. Similarly, wheat yield will too, gives negative yield in the future. According to Alkolibi (2002), wheat has a fairly high temperature tolerance. He further explains that wheat would no longer be susceptible of the continuous increase of temperature. Rice yield would have a negative production as well. This is because as the temperature increases, this will shorten the period of rice growth and leading it an early flowering (Butterfield and Morison as cited in Lal, 1998).
    In a nutshell, the correlations between global warming and agriculture have been recognized by a lot. Its impact on agriculture, however, is still remains uncertain, despite there were numerous of studies that had been done on this matter.
    2.4 Impact of Global Warming in Human Health
    Some infectious diseases are caused by the global warming. There are three major infectious diseases that are caused by the global warming are yellow fever, dengue, and cholera (Shope, 1991). Both Khasnis et. al (2005) and Colwell et. al (1998) agree that climate changes have indirect effects towards human health, particularly diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. According to Shope (1991), both yellow fever and dengue are transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes because they are caused by the same viruses of the family Flavivirdae. He further stresses that the maturation of mosquito larvae is rapid under warmer condition, signifying that the transmission of the diseases would also increase in a proportional manner.
    Cholera is a known disease, which is a sudden rapid loss of salt and severe dehydration from one’s body due to nonstop watery diarrhea, caused by a bacterium- Vibrio cholerae serogroup 01 (Shope, 1991). As such, patients would have died if there are not any replacement for the loss of salts and water from their bodies. Shope also explains that the optimum temperature for the bacterium to grow is at 37°C, in that sense, with the increase temperature of earth, mankind will have a tendency to be suffering from such disease.
    As a conclusion, we should be wary of our surrounding, with the increasing population of the mosquitoes, which have the tendency to transmit these infectious diseases to us. Mosquito control should be carried out by the authorities to prevent the epidemic disease from spreading. And we must try to prevent the global warming from getting much worse than what happens now.
    2.5 Summary of the Chapter
    The impact of global warming has covered a lot of aspects in our daily-basis, mainly to be seen on our environment, agriculture, and health. With each passing days that we are going through, so will the accumulation of the carbon dioxide given out each day, farmers are not able to harvest a satisfying amount of crop yield, and people are prone to get infected by infectious diseases. We are responsible to what we have done and hoping to find an effective solution to solve this problem,

    CHAPTER 5 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
    5.1 INTRODUCTION
    This chapter is which we will sum up everything and come up with a coherent conclusion from our studies, along with a few recommendations for the betterment in the future. The conclusion of this chapter is based on the findings and literature review obtained from survey questionnaires.
    5.2 CONCLUSION
    A minor conclusion is made from every findings that we had carefully inspected.
    5.2.1 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming in the world?
    The purpose of this research question was to determine the awareness level of UMP students on the global warming in the world. From the data analysis that had been done, it could be said that most UMP students were aware of global warming and its impact in the campus. They realised the impact of global warming in UMP campus where they suffered the extreme hot and cold whether weather and the shortage of water supply. Only fewer students were lack of knowledge in knowing the impact of global warming.
    5.2.2 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming in agriculture?
    This second research question is to investigate whether UMP students are aware of the impact of global warming in agriculture. From the study that had been done, on average, UMP students have only the most superficial idea of the impact of global warming that it could have caused towards the agriculture. Only a few percentage of them truly understand the mechanism behind all of the happenings.
    5.3 Recommendations
    To curb this global warming issue, it is suggested that UMP should organise some global warming talk to the students so that they can understand well on the impact of global warming and also gain the ways to counteract it. The organised talk should not be a simple talk where students just attend and listen to it. It must concludes some benefit activities where students can really understand the lessons in the talk.
    Besides that it is highly recommended that a new system of farming should be implemented in the agriculture section, as such, greenhouse farming is suggested. Greenhouse farming uses much less water due to well-managed irrigation and reduction in evaporation rates. As a matter of fact, this will require technology transfer, which the government could send a few trainees, for them to learn about the system, and later being taught and implemented into our agriculture.

    Title: A Study Of The Awareness Of The Impacts Of Global Warming Among UMP Students
    1.0 Introduction
    1.1 Statement of Problem
    Global warming is a phrase that refers to the effect on the climate of human activities, in particular the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) and large-scale deforestation, which cause emissions to the atmosphere of large amounts of ‘greenhouse gases’, of which the most important is carbon dioxide (Houghton, 2005, p.1343). Though in the increase in the Earth's temperature seems relatively insignificant, indirectly, it is, however, responsible for the conspicuous increase numbers of storms, floods, forest fires, and to name a few, which we have seen. In addition to 154,000 deaths in 2000 from diarrhea, malaria, dengue, flooding, and malnutrition assumed to result from climate change (global warming), the study from which this estimate was obtained added 12,000 deaths from presumed climate-change-induced cardiovascular disease (Goklany, 2009, p. 2).
    Based on our observations and experiences, many UMP students are suffering from the rapid changes in local climates. Although some of these changes may be positive in the short term, rising heat waves and unstable weather will most likely have negative effects in UMP in the long term. For examples, students are always sweating armpits under very hot sun and they also bring umbrellas along so to prepare for the unpredictable weather. Consequences, UMP students are easily exposed to flu and illness. Some of them especially those live at KK2 hostels, far from the lecture hall, frequently skip the class as they feel no mood to attend the class. Besides, flies reproduction in UMP is increasing recently. Students can see a lot of flies at cafeteria, making students afraid to buy food there because they are worry about the food hygiene. Therefore, a case study such as this may help to discover the level of awareness among UMP students on the effects of global warming.
    1.2 Research Objectives
    Our research objective are:
    to identify if UMP students are aware of the impacts of the global warming.
    to identify what are the impacts of global warming by asking the opinion of the UMP students.
    1.3 Research Questions
    1) Do UMP students aware of the impacts of global warming on the environment?
    2) Do UMP students aware of the impacts of global warming in agriculture?
    3) Do UMP students aware of the impacts of global warming on infectious disease?
    2.0 LITERATURE REVIEWS
    Goklany, I. M., (2009). Global Health Threats: Global Warming in Perspective. Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, (14) 3 1-7
    This article discusses global warming as it is one of the biggest public health threats. It is assumed that deaths from diarrhea, malaria, dengue, flooding, and malnutrition are a result from global warming. The article later further justifies that global warming and its impacts will be ranked in the top of the list of global public health problems in the coming future. It also depicts that the population will be on a risk of water risk, along with the increasing numbers of the population. Lastly, it suggests implementing a few policies to curb the effects of global warming.
    Houghton, J., (2005). Global Warming. Report Progress Physical, 68, 1343–1403 The article defines global warming as the effects on the climate of human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, which cause the emission of large quantities of ‘greenhouse gases’. These gases will absorb the heat emitted by the Earth and keep it warmer. Directly, the Earth temperature will increase and result the rapid change of climates and other disasters. Lastly, this article suggests that international action towards global warming should be taken by the world’s scientific and political communities meanwhile every single life in the world should be made aware and adequately informed since this phenomenon is a global problem which will endanger the world.

    Chapter 4 : Findings and Discussions
    4.1 Introduction
    This chapter is about data analysis for the research to answer the research questions. The data collected usually has been presented in graphical method such as bar chart and pie chart.
    4.2 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming on the environment?
    The purpose of this research question was to determine the awareness level of UMP students on the impact of global warming in the world. The variables that involved were the effects of global warming on the environment, the reasons of UMP students agreed and disagreed that global warming is happening in UMP.
    4.2.1 The Effects of Global Warming on the Environment
    {New_Picture.png}
    Figure 4.1: The Effects of Global Warming on the Environment through the Views of UMP Students
    The graph (See Figure 4.1) illustrates the effects of global warming on the environment. According to the graph, the melting of icebergs has the highest views of UMP students whereas the increase of using air-conditioner has the lowest views of the students. There were 53(33%) UMP students who thought that the melting of icebergs was the serious effect of global warming. On the other hand, there were only 26(16%) UMP students who thought that the increase of using air-conditioner was the least effect of global warming. As shown by the graph, there were 41(26%) and 39(25%) UMP students who also thought that the changes of climate rapidly and the increase of global disasters were the effects of global warming. It can be concluded that students were aware with the effects of global warming on the environment. They realised that the icebergs in South Pole and North Pole are melting with the rise of global temperature in present day. Similarly, they were also cognizant that the climate keeps changing rapidly nowadays due to global warming and as a result, global disasters increase sharply. Fewer students thought that the increase of using air-conditioner was the least effect of global warming because, in fact, the increase of using air-conditioner was the factor to global warming but not as the effect of global warming. The result from this variable matches with the study of Houghton (2005) which agrees that global warming causes the melting of glaciers and raises the sea-level. In another study, McMichael,et.al (2006) also agree and say that the rising atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases will cause global warming and result the increase of climate variability in a warmer world.
    4.2.2 The Reasons of UMP Students Agree and Disagree that Global Warming is Happening in UMP
    {New_Picture_(4).png}
    Figure 4.2: The Reasons of UMP Students Agree and Disagree that Global Warming is Happening in UMP.
    The graph (Figure 4.2) shows that the reasons of UMP students agree and disagree that global warming is happening in UMP. According to the data obtained, there were 40 students who agreed that global warming is happening in UMP whereas there were only 11 students who disagreed that global warming is happening in UMP. As shown in the graph, 8(27%) UMP students who thought that less tree was the major reason for global warming happens in campus. On the other hand, the factors like water supply is empty, 3%(1 student); a lot of rubbish is disposed, 3%(1 student); location of UMP is in industrial area, 3%(1 student) and gas released by laboratories, 3%(1 student); were the least reasons for global warming happens in UMP. Others factors like global warming is happening in the world, including UMP, 20%(6 students); usage of air-conditioners, 17%(5 students); climate condition fluctuates, 14%(4 students) and usage of transportation, 10%(3 students), were also contributing to global warming in UMP. Besides that, there were 2(40%) and 2(40%) UMP students who thought that the location of UMP nears the forest and the campus is not affected by temperature were the two major reasons for global warming not to happen in UMP. There was a student (20%) who thought that the climate in UMP is still normal. Thus, global warming is not happening in UMP. In could be concluded that most students in UMP were aware and care with global warming that happens in the world, including in the campus. They realised that the temperature in UMP is getting hotter and weather changes rapidly in present day. This was because trees (forest) were less in the surrounding of UMP as the location of UMP was in industrial area where deforestation was done to build factories. But, some students disagreed that there were less tree surrounding UMP because they thought that the forest near the campus was plenty and enough to balance the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases especially CO2, which this meant that the temperature and climate in UMP were affected. In the study McMichael,et.al (2006) agree and say that almost all scientists in the world has agreed the rising atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases due to human actions will cause global warming and result the increase of climate variability in a warmer world.
    4.3 Are UMP students aware of the impact of global warming in agriculture?
    To identify UMP students' knowledge about the awareness of the impact of global warming in agriculture. The variables that involved are yield of crop production and reasons for the reduction of crop yield.
    {New_Picture_(5).png}
    Figure 4.3 Yield of Crop Production In The Future Under The Influence of Global Warming
    The pie chart (See Figure 4.3) depicts the yield of the crop production under the influence of global warming in the coming future through the views of the UMP students. According to the pie chart, majority of the UMP students think that the crop production will most likely to suffer from a shortfall, while a minority of them think that the crop production will have a positive yield. An amount of 37 (90%) of the UMP students think that the crop production will have a negative yield in the future, and another 4 (10%) of the UMP students think that the global warming will actuate to the crop production. UMP students who share the thought of having a positive yield in crop production is relative low. It can be concluded that the crops will not be able to adapt to the warmer climate, and this is in line with the study made by Cerri (2007), along with his crop simulation models in his survey suggested that crop production will have a negative yield, especially in tropical countries. However he too concluded that there might be some uncertainties that have not been taken into account into his crop simulation models.
    {New_Picture_(4).png}
    Figure 4.4 Reasons for The Reduction of Crop Yield
    The pie chart (See Figure 4.4) describes the reasons for the reduction of crop yield under the influence of global warming in the coming future through the views of the UMP students. According to the pie chart, most UMP students came up with a rational motive of the decrease in crop yield is because of the improper surrounding temperature whilst some think that the crops are experiencing early flowering and therefore having a shorter grain-fill period could be the cause for the diminution of the crop production. 29 (48%) of the UMP students think that improper surrounding temperature is the cause of the happening, while 12 (20%) of the UMP students each think that low supply to the crops and the lowered quality of soils are the causes, and lastly another 7 (12%) of UMP students think that early flowering and shortened grain-fill period is the cause of it. The pie chart shows that almost half of the UMP students in the study conceive that improper surrounding temperature is the reason of reduction of the crop yield. It can be resolved that fluctuation of the surrounding temperature will provide an incompatible environment for the crop to develop, and this has succeeded with the study of Smit & Cai (1996), who they concluded that the world is generally getting warmer and drier in the last hundred years, crops on average will not be able to sustain in harsh condition.From the study that had been done, it can be concluded that, on average, UMP students have only the surface idea of the impact of global warming that it could have caused towards the agriculture. Only a few percentage of them truly understand the mechanism behind all of the happenings.
    4.4 Global warming cause infectinous disease
    {reed.png}
    Figure 4.5: global warming cause infectinous disease
    From the pie chart above (figure 4.5) shows that the servey that have been made to know whether global warming cause infectinous disease. In this figure, as we can see that 50(83%) of UMP students agreed that global warming causes infectinous disease while 10(17%) of UMP students disagreed about this issue. Majority of UMP’s student agreed about this issue is because they have read about the effect of global warming. A lot of bad effect about the global warming that is happening nowadays, skin cancer is also one of the effect cause the global warming that is now happening in our country. However, only 10 of UMP’s student disagreed about this issue is because they did not see and never experience this infectinous disease. Atul A. Khasnis and Mary D. Nettleman (2005) said that global warming has serious implications for all aspects of human life, including infectious diseases.
    {reed2.png}
    Figure 4.6: The Biggest Disease Treat to Mankind in the Future
    From the figure above(figure 4.6), it shows that the biggest disease treat to mankind in the future that is cause by the global warming. In the chart, it shows that 13(21.67%) of UMP students think that chorea is the biggest disease treat. However, there are 12(20%) UMP student think that yellow fever, 4(6.67%) UMP students thought that dengue and 9(15%) UMP students thought that malaria is the biggest disease treat in the future. From the chart,we can conclude that, UMP students thought that clorea and yellow fever is the biggest disease treat. But, dengue is also the biggest disease treat in the future because dengue is spread and carry by a mosquitoes. In the hot weather, the spread of disease will increase because the mosquitoes will active in hot climate. Malaria also the biggest disease treat because malaria is naturally transmitted by the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito. When a mosquito bites an infected person, a small amount of blood is taken, which contains malaria parasites. These develop within the mosquito, and about one week later, when the mosquito takes its next blood meal, the parasites are injected with the mosquito's saliva into the person being bitten. After a period of between two weeks and several months (occasionally years) spent in the liver, the malaria parasites start to multiply within red blood cells, causing symptoms that include fever, and headache. In severe cases the disease worsens leading to hallucinations, coma, and death.

    any other mosquitoes.mosquitoes.hey I'm black and I like boys.
    It is clear that UMP students are FUCKING RETARDED aware of the impact of global warming on human health. This is because the outbreak of cholera has become very apparent and global warming is the factor that aids in the faster maturation of mosquitoes.
